Breadmaker Irish Soda Bread Recipe | Bread Machine

This is a Breadmaker Irish Soda Bread can be made in a breadmaker machine.

St. Patrick’s Day is March 17th, and it is a day for everyone to be ” wearing o’ the green” along with other customary Irish traditions. My husband’s family is Irish, and it wouldn’t be Saint Patrick’s Day if I didn’t make Irish Soda Bread from scratch.  I posted an Irish Soda Bread recipe made with Buttermilk that’s baked in the oven.

Once you see how easy it is to make Irish Soda Bread in a Breadmaker, you’ll be making it all year long!

Saint Patrick’s Day Irish Soda Bread for Bread Maker

Most people don’t realize that Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland wasn’t born there. The color Green is symbolic of spring and the flourishing of the crops. You can be Irish at heart by wearing Green or incorporating the color in food to celebrate and observe this fun holiday as it’s a holiday for people of all ages.

Breadmaker Irish Soda Bread Recipe

Irish Soda Bread, Yeast Bread, Breadmaker, Bread Machine

  • Large Loaf:
  • Buttermilk 1-1/8 to 1-1/4 cup
  • 2 eggs
  • 6 Tbl. Honey
  • 4 Tbl. Butter
  • 1-1/2 Tsp. Salt
  • 4-1/3 c. All Purpose Flour or King Arthur Bread Flour
  • 4 Tsp. Caraway Seeds
  • 1-1/2 Tsp. Baking Soda
  • 1-1/2 Tsp. Fleischmann's Active Dry Yeast
  • 1/2 c. Currants or Raisins

  1. Place all ingredients except currants in bread pan. Select Light crust setting and Raisin Nut cycle. Press Start.
  2. Observe the dough as it kneeds. After 5 to 10 minutes, if it appears dry and stiff or if your machine sounds as if it’s straining to kneed it, add more liquid 1 Tablespoon at a time until dough forms a smooth, soft, pliable ball that is slightly tacky to the touch.
  3. At the beep, add the currants. (If you can’t find currants, substitute raisins)
  4. After the baking cycle ends, remove bread from pan, place on cake rack, and allow to cool 1 hour before slicing.

Crust: Light

Bake Cycle: Raisin/Nut

Optional Bake Cycles: Standard/Sweet Bread/Rapid Bake

This is an “old country bread” that is chock full of currants and caraway seeds and has a delicious creamy texture.
